Driving on Winter Highways in Western Canada
*For driving directions, simply view our Location Map and click on Directions in the info tab.
Western Canadian roads can be subject to intense winter storms with blowing and drifting snow, reduced visibility, ice sections, black ice and avalanche danger. Follow instructions on all warning signs and road condition reports. Good winter tires are mandatory. Be prepared by carrying a shovel, flares, warm clothing and some basic tools with you at all times. Make sure you have enough fuel to make it to the next service station. Drive with care and attention, and you’ll be just FINE! There are no convenient public transport links to Retallack Lodge. Private vehicle is your only direct and quick way to get to us.
We have extensive highway clearing programs, but in some areas there can be delays due to avalanche control. Please check the following weather / highway report links before you leave:

Crossing the US / Canadian Border
US citizens crossing the border into Canada must show their passport and valid photo ID such as a driver’s licence. The immigration officers will ask you about the purpose of your visit, your personal history and what you are bringing across the border with you. Firearms, alcohol, drugs, tobacco, fruit, and meat are of particular interest to them. Please pack carefully. For further information see the US Department of State’s Tips for Travellers to Canada.
