Cosy, eco-friendly accommodation in the heart of the Canadian Wilderness…
Retallack Lodge is nestled in a grove of old-growth cedars on the banks of the Kaslo River, deep in the heart of the Selkirk Mountain Range in British Columbia, Canada. Situated 3,000 feet (1,000 metres) above sea level and surrounded by majestic peaks reaching as high as 10,000 feet (3,000 metres), our charming timber-frame accommodation is the perfect base for your ultimate powder-skiing or boarding adventure.
Retallack Lodge
Retallack Lodge is named after a turn-of-the-century mining town that used to stand on the site where our accommodation is now situated. Hopeful prospectors flocked to the area in the late nineteenth century, lured by one of the world’s largest silver mining booms. In its heyday, the historical Retallack township boasted three hotels, several stores, a barber shop, an ice packer and a school. To this day, you can still see traces of the former bustling community – including two turn-of-the-century mining buildings – beside the highway as you drive to our lodge.
However, it’s not just our rich history that makes Retallack special. We’re also one of the greenest operations in the backcountry skiing and boarding industry - not to mention among the most eco-friendly accommodation you’ll find anywhere in Canada. In fact, Retallack was the first cat- or heli-skiing operation to be awarded four green keys from the Hotel Association of Canada’s Green Key Eco-Rating programme. The four-key rating is awarded to hotels that show “national industry leadership and commitment to protecting the environment through wide-ranging policies and practices”. To learn more about how Retallack is helping the environment, please see our eco awareness section.
The heart of Retallack Lodge is our spacious living room with its comfortable leather sofas and impressive two-storey granite fireplace. We also offer a pleasant 42-person dining room, cosy bar, games room, entertainment room, sauna, outdoor hot-tub and wireless internet access. (Check out relaxing if you’d like to know more.) Other amenities include a wax and tuning room with everything you need for tuning and repairing your ski equipment, and a drying room where you can leave your boots and outerwear to dry overnight.
Retallack Lodge is situated approximately an hour’s drive north of the artsy, laid-back town of Nelson, British Columbia. Unlike many other cat-skiing and boarding operations, we’re accessible by vehicle on a well-maintained highway. That means you don’t have to worry about baggage limits on helicopter flights, long trips to your accommodation in snowcats, snowmobiles or boats, or leaving your car behind in an unattended car-park. After all, why waste valuable powder time spending hours getting to and from your accommodation? Our maps and directions section has detailed information on how to find us.
