Trip Insurance – Catskiing

We strongly recommend that you purchase trip cancellation, trip interruption and medical insurance.  Your insurance broker can advise you about other types of insurance you may require, such as disability, life, and personal property insurance.

Trip Cancellation / Interruption Insurance

Retallack is pleased to recommend Trip Cancellation/Interruption Insurance from Lifestyle Financial. At only an approximate cost of 5% of the total cost of your trip, it is a bargain for your added peace of mind. Please note that rates may vary depending upon your personal circumstances. Please also note that insurance must be purchased when you make the initial booking payment for your trip. You can access the online insurance application here.

VISITORS TO CANADA/ OUT-OF PROVINCE MEDICAL & EVACUATION INSURANCE

Retallack offers an insurance package to cover costs if, in the event of a serious injury, you need to be evacuated by helicopter, snowcat, snowmobile, other vehicle or ambulance to the nearest medical facility. The insurance program is mandatory for every guest at a cost of $10 per person per day and will be automatically added to all invoices at the time of trip purchase. This insurance package covers acute, sudden and unexpected medical emergencies only, including helicopter evacuation to the nearest medical facility. Hospital care and physician services as deemed medically necessary are included to the maximum of the policy limit of $100,000 CAD. Additional medical evacuation insurance (e.g. to the US, Europe, Oceania, Asia, etc.) is not covered.

Under no circumstances is Retallack responsible for any medical or transportation expenses if 1) we do not receive all of the required information to enrol you in the program (contained on your booking form) at least one week prior to your trip, and 2) if you have already departed for your trip. Retallack will not provide a refund or credit for this insurance package under any circumstances.

Please note that due to Canada Health Act restrictions, residents of British Columbia are not eligible to fully participate in this program since they are required by law to be covered by their Provincial Health Care Insurance in British Columbia. Please note that British Columbia Provincial Health Care Insurance does not typically cover backcountry helicopter evacuation and also charges fees for ground ambulance and air ambulance services. If you need to be evacuated by helicopter, snowcat, snowmobile, other vehicle or ambulance, Retallack will cover/reimburse these transportation costs to the nearest medical facility only. Retallack is not responsible in any manner for all other medical expenses incurred as these will be subject to the resident of British Columbia’s Provincial Health Care Insurance. Regardless if you are a resident of British Columbia or not, this evacuation insurance package is mandatory for every guest at a cost of $10 per person per day and will be automatically added to all invoices at the time of your trip purchase. Retallack will not provide a refund or credit for this insurance package under any circumstances.

Other Insurance

Please note that no insurance provider currently provides a policy that covers inclement weather or dangerous snow conditions during your catskiing or boarding trip. Retallack reserves the right to cancel at any time without notice. Under no circumstances is Retallack responsible for the guest’s inconvenience or travel expenses in this situation.

Currency Exchange

Once you arrive at Retallack Lodge, there is no need for cash. All expenses at the lodge will be added to your account and charged to your credit card on file. If you decide to tip, many guests prefer to tip in cash – either Canadian or US currency is accepted. You may also use your credit card to tip

Canadian bank machines will accept most ATM cards and dispense Canadian bills in return. If you are concerned, check with your bank about its exchange rates before leaving home. Downtown Nelson has plenty of ATM machines and is home to the Bank of Montreal, CIBC, Royal Bank of Canada, Scotia Bank, and a Credit Union. Credit Unions with ATMs are also available in the nearby towns of Kaslo and New Denver.
