One of those out-of-the-way places that you’ll never forget.

Retallack provides world-class cat skiing, snowboarding, and mountain biking experiences in the remote wilderness high up in the Selkirk Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. It’s one of those out-of-the-way places that you’ll never forget. We ski deep, dry snow in the winters; and roam these same areas by bike in the summer!

Retallack is the first operation to be awarded a prestigious Four Green Key Eco-rating in recognition of “national industry leadership and commitment to protecting the environment through wide-ranging policies and practices. Four Key recipients have mature programs in place that involve management, employees, guests, and the public, and which have shown substantial and measurable results.”

Retallack is renowned for its consistent deep powder snow, tacky dirt and steep terrain. We receive up to 13 metres (40 ft) of snow per year that blankets our open bowls, glades, and treeskiing runs. Overall the terrain at Retallack is steep and possesses numerous features that are only suitable for advanced to expert skiers and riders. Retallack is particularly known for its consistent powder snow, steep tree skiing (which includes 800 year old cedars), and pillow lines. We are proud to be 100% owned by skiers, snowboarders, and mountain bikers including legendary pro skiers Seth Morrison and Tanner Hall. All of our decisions are thus made by riders for riders.

Retallack is a world leader in heli-biking and professionally guided backcountry mountain biking. Our exclusive commercial network of downhill, all-mountain / enduro, and freeride trails is dispersed in the Selkirk and Purcell Mountains of the West Kootenays. We recently obtained government authorization to expand our tenure to create the world’s largest heli-biking and backcountry mountain biking operating area – over 1.5 millions acres. Presently, Retallack is continuing to develop a plethora of trails that will enable customers to access additional descents of up to 6,000 vertical feet via a combination of helicopters, off-road shuttle vans, and boats.

We trace our roots back 125 years and derive our name from Major John Ley Retallack – the previous owner of what was once one of world’s largest silver mines. Retallack is located on the old townsite, between the towns of Kaslo and New Denver, which once housed a swashbuckling mining town of over 7,000 people. Although little remains of this past mining boom, to this day we use old mining roads to mine our modern day powder and tacky dirt. Occasionally we take a break from our “mining” and pay our respects to our forefathers by stoking the wood stoves and having a barbeque at one of the many turn of turn-of-the-century cabins located within our tenure.

Our 11,000 sq ft luxury timber frame lodge is nestled in an Old Growth forest on the banks of the Kaslo River – site of the Academy Award nominated film “Snow Falling on Cedars”. Retallack Lodge will be your home base during your powder snow or mountain biking adventure. You can expect friendly service in our cozy surroundings as you indulge in gourmet meals, carefully prepared by our chefs and served in style in our fully licensed bar and dining room. Feel free to sit back and relax in front of our fireplaces and watch “caveman television” or find your swagger in our games room. To round things off, rejuvenate yourself in our sauna and hot tub, or experience a variety of our massage therapies.

We look forward to sharing our “Kootenay vibe” with you and hope you experience some of the best days of your life with us.
